Jennifer C. Chen | Professor

Jennifer C. Chen  was the outstanding graduate from BYU-Hawaii’s accounting program in 1999. She obtained her master’s degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and earned her doctorate from the University of Central Florida. Professor Chen’s professional experiences are in the areas of manufacturing and non-profit organizations. Her research interests are in public policy, corporate social responsibility, disclosure, and nonprofit accounting. She has published in The Journal of Business Ethics, Accounting and the Public Interest, and other journals. Her research has been cited in numerous accounting and business journals worldwide. Professor Chen joined BYU-Hawaii’s accounting faculty in 2005. Since then she has received several awards including the Exemplary Faculty Award. Professor Chen and her husband Mike have two children.

Jennifer Chen

Tialei Scanlan | Assistant Professor

Tialei Scanlan  was the outstanding graduate from BYU-Hawaii’s accounting program in 2012. She obtained her Global Masters of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in accounting from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Shidler College of Business. Tialei began her career in auditing at Deloitte, Honolulu office. Her research interests include academic success for ethnic minorities. Tialei is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and is SAP TERP10 certified. She began teaching at BYU-Hawaii (in-class and online) in August 2015. She and her husband have three children Sevahi, Tulu and Troy.

Jennifer Chen

J. Brian Watkins | Associate Professor

J. Brian Watkins has been teaching at BYU-Hawaii since July of 2011.  Prior to moving to Hawaii he practiced law in Southern California.  He was admitted to the Bar following graduation from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU-Provo in April 1993.  Br. Watkins also earned a Master's Degree in Accounting with a specialty in Tax from the Marriott School of Management at BYU Provo and completed his undergraduate degree at BYU Provo with University Honors. During law school he served as a law clerk to the Hon. Stephen Swift of the United States Tax Court.  He and his wife Cindi have five daughters, four sons and one grandson as of September 2015.

Brian Watkins

 

Brent White | Assistant Professor

Brent White is an Assistant Professor in the Accounting Department at BYU-Hawaii, where he teaches courses in Managerial Accounting and Accounting Information Systems. Prior to joining BYU-H, he was the Chief Audit Executive of a global pharmaceutical company based in Irvine, CA. He worked in the pharmaceutical / medical device industry for over 25. His professional interests are in the areas of Foreign Corrupt Practices Act Compliance, Fraud investigations, and Enterprise Risk Assessment. He has a Master’s Degree in Accounting (MAcc) with a focus on Managerial Accounting and a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Spanish from BYU in Provo. In addition to teaching courses in the Accounting Department at BYU-H, he also serves as a faculty advisor of the Professional Accounting Society, the BYU-H accounting club.
